Amidst coronavirus fears, we're prepping for our first official fieldwork trip for our project that looks at how communities receive and adapt to rapid inward migration. We're off to Cape Town on Sunday. Before leaving, we had the chance to connect with a Zimbabwean migrant studying in South Africa who did a study on Cape Town for the Refugees in Towns project. It was great to get a jump start on understanding the context from the perspective of migrants and what motivated him to report on that project in the first place.
We have our interviews lined up and are looking forward to working with our in-country partner to get a sense of how Cape Town copes with migration in the midst of a significant water crisis.
Stay tuned as we attempt to liveblog/live fieldnote our observations and experiences over the next two weeks.
