Our inaugural cohort of four students spent three hours with the Storymodelers team exploring something truly special: the intersection of medicine, storytelling, and artificial intelligence.

💙 The Heart of Workshop #1
The centerpiece of our first workshop was learning about Mr. Clark, an anatomical donor whose journey as a "silent teacher" has touched countless medical students over the years. Dr. Carrie Elzie, who introduced us to Mr. Clark's story over 5 years ago, led a powerful discussion about how storytelling can increase compassion in medicine and help students develop deeper appreciation for anatomical donors—their "first patients."
🔬 What's Next?
Over the next year, our students will collaboratively design, develop, and refine an AI storytelling system that creates respectful, demographically and medically valid donor narratives. This builds on previous research using AI to detect sentiments in anatomy reflections and understand how donor life stories impact student responsibility and empathy.
This collaboration between EVMS and Storymodelers is equipping future physicians with essential skills for modern healthcare: generative AI, data analytics, modeling & simulation, and computational social science.
We're so proud to be part of this innovative initiative creating sustainable pathways for interdisciplinary research in medical education! 🎓
